The National Airports Company of Bucharest and EUROCONTROL (European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation) have implemented the first phase of the “Prediction of Luggage Delivery Time” project at Henri Coandă Airport.
This concept represents an innovative solution for predicting baggage delivery times, developed by EUROCONTROL, the European hub for aviation research and innovation. The project uses advanced artificial intelligence models, data analysis and machine learning algorithms to estimate the waiting time of baggage at the Arrivals lanes, thus contributing to the optimization of operational flows and increasing the punctuality of services provided to passengers.
“Bucharest airports continue to develop as a competitive, efficient and passenger-oriented regional hub. The fact that we participate, together with EUROCONTROL, in the implementation of an innovative European project confirms our commitment to adopting modern technologies that work for the benefit of passengers and the airport community. The implementation of the “Prediction of Luggage Delivery Time” project represents a new step towards the digital transformation of Henri Coandă Bucharest International Airport and the improvement of the passenger experience. Collaboration with EUROCONTROL is an opportunity to capitalize on technologies based on advanced data analysis and artificial intelligence, through which we will be able to provide more precise information on the estimated time of baggage delivery, offering modern services to passengers and airlines”, said Bogdan Mîndrescu, general manager of the National Company of Bucharest Airports.
The concept uses complex data (flight number, aircraft stand, airline responsible for baggage delivery, handling agent subcontracted by the airline, delivery times, baggage belt allocation, etc.) to train a predictive model capable of estimating the baggage delivery time at the belt for each flight landing at Henri Coandă Airport.
“We are pleased to have CNAB as a partner in implementing the most innovative projects to improve operational flows and passenger satisfaction. CNAB’s appetite for modernization and digitalization means concrete steps towards equalizing the level of services offered in major European airports. By engaging in this project, Romania actively contributes to the digital transformation of European aviation and to the development of modern, intelligent and passenger-oriented airport services,” said Paul Bărăbaș, representative of the Romanian state at EUROCONTROL.
The joint CNAB-EUROCONTROL project represents a complete system that includes the specific methodology, the unique artificial intelligence model and a set of software protocols, developed within the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (based in Brétigny-sur-Orge, France), as part of the EATIN program – European Aviation Transport Innovation Network.
