From tomorrow (17 December), passengers will notice changes to security screening for international departures as Brisbane Airport unveils its upgraded screening point.
Passengers will now enter screening on Level 4 at the International Terminal, then follow a temporary pathway to the existing passport control on Level 3 while construction on the Brisbane International Terminal redevelopment continues.
Eight new security lanes equipped with Rapiscan CT (Computed Tomography) screening technology will open from tomorrow, delivering a more secure and seamless screening process.
Importantly for passengers, the new screening equipment allows laptops and toiletries to remain inside bags. Volume limits continue to apply on powders, liquids, aerosols and gels when travelling on international flights.
The lanes also feature larger tubs to accommodate personal items, and automatic tray return.
Stacey Pollard, Brisbane Airport Head of Terminal Operations said the new screening process was driven by the need to upgrade security screening equipment to meet Australian Government standards by the end of 2025.
“We’ve been in testing mode over the past week as our teams get up to speed with the new equipment, and we’re incredibly excited to see this new screening point open to passengers from Wednesday,” she said.
“The fact that passengers will be able to leave laptops and toiletries, subject to existing volume limits, in their bags will make a real difference and remove one of the biggest frustrations for international travellers.
“We’re grateful for passengers right across Brisbane Airport who have been patient during our upgrades over the past couple of years, and we’re delighted that they’re about to start experiencing the benefits of the Future BNE transformation.
“We’ll have on-ground customer service teams ready to step in and guide travellers through the new process.
“We’re expecting a record number of travellers through our International Terminal these Christmas holidays, so we’re urging everyone to pack their patience.
“Arriving the normal three hours before an international flight has never been more important.”
The International Terminal is undergoing its largest upgrade in 30 years, delivering new security screening, improved check-in and baggage systems and a refreshed Duty Free, retail, food and beverage offerings.
The redevelopment is just one part of the $5 billion Future BNE transformation across the precinct.
