  • New design will enhance experience for international travellers, visitors, and staff
  • Revitalised space scheduled to open in Q4 2022

Sydney Airport has awarded Ford Civil the major construction contract to revitalise the T1 International forecourt as part of enhancing the experience for international travellers, visitors and staff.

Due to open in Q4 2022, the scope of work includes a reoriented outdoor design featuring 10,000sqm of new paving, more green space with elevated gardens, and over 60 species of plants, as well as new seating, improved signage and wayfinding, and a contemporary café.

To deliver a greater connection to Country, Sydney Airport has collaborated with Indigenous-owned landscapers Jiwah to establish a sustainable, native green space which will feature native trees, structural plants, and ground covers and grasses, with many species being Indigenous to the area.

The airport is also working with the Gujaga Foundation to deliver a stronger connection with the local community by sourcing the traditional names, uses and meanings behind the flora.

Once complete, the outdoor forecourt will offer international travellers a more welcoming experience to Australia that embodies the spirit of Sydney, as well as providing a calm and comfortable space for people to rest, relax and reconnect with loved ones after a long-haul flight.
