12 offers from major international construction and engineering firms for the modernization of runway no. 1

The National Company of Bucharest Airports received 12 offers from major international engineering and construction firms to participate in the auction organized for the modernization of Runway No. 1 of the “Henri Coandă” International Airport.

This major work marks a decisive step in the modernization of the aviation infrastructure in Romania, being the most important investment project in the history of the “Henri Coandă” Airport. Through this project, the National Airports Company of Bucharest continues the modernization and expansion of the operating capacity of the “Henri Coandă” Airport, aligning the infrastructure with the most demanding international standards in the field of aviation.

The project provides for the complete reconstruction and modernization of Runway 08R-26L of the “Henri Coandă” International Airport in Bucharest, the construction of 5 new aircraft taxiways, the modernization of 2 existing taxiways, the complete replacement of the runway and taxiway lighting installations, the modernization of the underground cable trunks that supply the lighting, the reconfiguration of the runway safety area, relocation of the perimeter road, etc.

The estimated value of the contract is approximately 106 million euros, the financing will be provided from the own funds of the National Airports Company of Bucharest. The duration foreseen for the execution of the works is a maximum of 16 months, and that for the design is 9 months.

The last major modernization of Runway No. 1 took place 31 years ago, in 1994. Since then, for the safe conduct of air traffic at “Henri Coandă” Airport, the runway was repaired in 2017, during the previous mandate of the current CNAB general director, Bogdan Mîndrescu.

4.
