Tirana International Airport to upgrade runway and airfield lighting ahead of 2027 season

Company Tirana International Airport
Date 26.10.2026

Tirana International Airport will undertake runway rehabilitation and supporting infrastructure upgrades between 9 and 26 November as part of an investment programme led by Kastrati Group to improve safety, operational efficiency and capacity ahead of the 2027 season.

The works will include the rehabilitation of a significant section of runway pavement, installation of a new LED airfield lighting system, taxiway improvements and additional work within the terminal.

The programme is designed to accommodate continued growth in air traffic and passenger numbers while strengthening the airport’s infrastructure to meet future operational requirements. The investments will also support Albania’s preparations for major international events, including the NATO Summit.

Selected night-time airport closures are planned during the work period to allow the necessary technical interventions to be completed safely while minimising disruption to airport operations.

Some flights may be affected by changes to departure and arrival times. Passengers travelling between 9 and 26 November are advised to monitor communications from their airlines and check their latest flight information before travelling to the airport.

Tirana International Airport is coordinating with airlines and operational partners throughout the programme to minimise disruption and maintain safe and efficient operations.
