Wizz Air, the second airline by market share in Italy, today announces a further phase of growth in the country by selecting Turin Airport as a strategic location for the opening of a new operational base, the airline’s seventh in Italy.
From September 14, 2026, a first state-of-the-art aircraft will be allocated at the new Turin base, followed by a second aircraft starting October 25, 2026: a significant network expansion and strengthening of the offering to both domestic and international destinations, with an annual capacity increase of 500,000 additional seats per aircraft.
This strategic investment, developed together with Torino Airport, which will foster new growth opportunities for the region, creating 80 new direct jobs and 700 indirect jobs in related industries, as well as an unprecedented network of connections.
The opening of the new base represents a decisive step in strengthening the airline’s ties with the region and especially with Turin Airport, which has proven to be strategic for its national and international network since the airline began operations there in 2004, with over 3 million passengers carried overall.
In 2025 alone, Wizz Air operated more than 2,100 flights from Turin, transporting over 450,000 passengers to some of the most beautiful cities in Italy and Europe: from nearby destinations such as Catania to major capitals like London, Warsaw, Budapest, Sofia, and Tirana, just to name a few. From May 4, 2026, Palermo will be added, and from June 9, 2026, London Luton.
With the opening of the new base, the airline’s network in the Piedmont capital will expand further with the launch of seven new domestic and international routes, with a particular focus on popular Spanish destinations as well as key Italian cities.
The new Turin base will ensure a significant frequency of flights to Rome Fiumicino, with a total of 11 weekly flights starting September 14. Within Italy, from December 1, there will also be 7 weekly flights from Turin to Naples Capodichino. Additionally, flights to Palermo, launching on May 4, 2026 with daily frequency, will be increased to twice daily from September 14.
Beyond Italy, new routes will be launched to Barcelona – from September 14 with daily flights – as well as Valencia (from September 15 with 4 weekly flights), Madrid (from October 25 with 4 weekly flights), Malaga (from October 26 with 3 weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays), and Bilbao (from September 14 with 3 weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays). Tickets are available from today on wizzair.com and the official WIZZ app, with fares starting from €24.99.
In 2026, the airline will operate a total of 16 routes to 8 countries from Turin, offering nearly 1.3 million seats for passengers in Turin and the Piedmont region. The launch of these new routes confirms Wizz Air’s commitment to the Italian market, where it operates a fleet of state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo aircraft. These aircraft, the most sustainable in their category, provide a quiet and comfortable onboard experience, reliable service, and reduced environmental impact*.
“With the opening of our new base at Turin Airport, we are taking a highly significant strategic step in the development of our network and making an important contribution to strengthening connectivity in Northern Italy,” said Andras Szabo, Network Officer of Wizz Air, during the presentation of the airline’s plans at Turin Airport. “The arrival of two new aircraft based in the Piedmont capital represents much more than a simple operational expansion: it is a tangible investment in the region, capable not only of generating economic value and employment, but also of significantly contributing to making Turin and Piedmont increasingly accessible, dynamic, and competitive within the European landscape. We strongly believe in Turin’s potential as a city of innovation, culture, and industry, so much so that we are more than doubling the number of seats available this year for travelers to and from the city. Our goal is clear: to bring the North-West of the country closer to Europe on one hand, and to make Italy increasingly interconnected from North to South with accessible and ultra-competitive fares. Let’s WIZZ, Turin!”
“We are extremely satisfied with the investment that Wizz Air has chosen to make in Turin and with the development prospects it will bring for the airport and the region. The opening of the base, with two aircraft and the launch of new domestic and international routes, represents a strategic milestone that strengthens Piedmont’s connectivity, supports tourism and business flows, and generates significant employment benefits. It is further confirmation of the attractiveness of Turin Airport and the strength of the growth path we are pursuing, aimed at ensuring competitiveness and new development opportunities for the entire regional system. To celebrate, we are offering all passengers a 50% discount on our covered Multi-storey car park and open-air 5th floor car park for bookings made today and tomorrow, for stays between September 14 and December 3, 2026,” said Andrea Andorno, CEO of Torino Airport.
Wizz Air’s investment comes within a context of steady and significant growth. In 2025, the airline carried over 21 million passengers in Italy, recording an 8% increase compared to the previous year and maintaining an outstanding reliability rate of 99.6%. With a fleet of 40 aircraft based in the country and a market share of 11%, Wizz Air is currently the second-largest carrier in Italy, aiming to offer 27 million seats in 2026 and further strengthen its presence across the national territory.
