- GuardX enhances incident analysis, strengthening air traffic safety
- Designed for seamless integration into existing air traffic control (ATC) environments
- Supports encrypted communication, role-based access control, and full audit trails
GuardX has successfully been rolled out at Austro Control, Austria’s national air navigation service provider. GuardX makes incident analysis faster, more efficient, and more reliable, ultimately strengthening air traffic safety while reducing operational effort. Located at the heart of Europe, Austria’s Vienna FIR (Flight Information Region) handles around 4,000 flight movements daily, making it a key corridor for international air traffic. In this environment, GuardX provides secure recording and rapid access to critical communications and data, supporting compliance, investigations, and operational resilience efficiently.
“The implemented GuardX platform is prepared for automatic speech-to-text transcription using advanced AI-based components,” says Reinhard Grimm, Frequentis Executive Vice President ATM Civil. “This capability will significantly reduce the time and cost required for reporting and analysis, enabling faster access to relevant information and more efficient handling of safety related issues.”
The new system reliably records air traffic-relevant voice communications, including radio, telephone, and ambient audio, providing a unified and future-ready foundation for operational safety, investigation, and compliance.
Austria’s air traffic management environment demands reliable access to operational communications and data across multiple locations. GuardX provides a secure, centralised recording platform that strengthens resilience, simplifies administration and supports our commitment to safe and efficient air traffic services.
The deployment covers ATC towers in Vienna (Schwechat), Graz, Linz, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt and Salzburg, as well as the Area Control Centre (ACC) in Vienna, ensuring consistent, high-quality recording across the entire Austrian air traffic management network.
GuardX ensures reliable 24/7 operation and centralised management, while enabling local capture at each air traffic control site. It is also future-proof, scalable, and ready for expansion, providing the technical foundation for future combined recording and replay of voice, radar data, and air traffic controller screens within one integrated environment.
