Border Security: Insights from the German Border Control of the Future

With the migration crisis ongoing throughout the Mediterranean and mainland Europe, national security continues to be a priority for EU nations. Just recently, the European Parliament has announced the approval to store biometric details of non-EU visitors. At the same time, France and Germany have called for the right to reintroduce border controls within the Schengen zone due to terrorism threats.

In line with this, SMi is proud to announce that Mr Ralph Krueger, Director of Project Control of the Future, German Federal Police Headquarters, will be speaking at the 11th Border Security conference in Rome next February.

Speaking on Day 1 of the event, Mr Krueger will be presenting a session on strategies to enhance border security capabilities with a focus on the German Border Control of the Future. The talk will explore PNR, Entry/Exit and ABC gate projects that will enhance and renew border controls to meet EU Standards. Mr Krueger will also discuss the project timeframes, as they target operational functionality on the frontline at air and sea borders by 2020. Additionally, he will give updates and feedback from testing at Frankfurt airport and initial pilot projects.
