Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to reveal the green benefits of NextGen at Passenger Terminal CONFERENCE

Gary Warren, Vice President, Planning, Development and Environment – Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), USA – who revealed at last year’s conference the thinking behind Minneapolis-St Paul (MSP) International Airport’s 20-year planning approach to deliver a staggered, incremental facility expansion – is returning this year to discuss the environmental impact of NextGen aircraft procedures.

Titled ‘Advancing NextGen aircraft procedures through quantifying the environmental benefits’, the presentation will take place during the Energy, Environment & Sustainability session on Wednesday 15 March 2017.

“This presentation will detail the community challenges encountered at Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport when new NextGen aircraft departure and arrival procedures were proposed,” explains Warren. “It will highlight the development of a new flight track data analysis system developed by the airport to aid in shifting the dialogue from noise to quantifying what has turned out to be one of the biggest single greenhouse gas reduction actions at the airport in documented history, in the form of new NextGen aircraft arrival procedures incorporating Optimised Profile Descents (OPD).”

Gary, who has been with MAC for 25 years, is currently overseeing a US$1.4bn multi-year capital programme and the most extensive noise mitigation programme in North America. He has directed the planning and construction of Runway 17-35, a US$760m multi-phased programme that included the elimination of a golf course, tenant relocations, hotel demolition next to the Mall of America, parallel taxiways, high-speed turn-offs and a CAT III approach. Nationally recognised by the American Public Works Association as a Top 10 Public Works Leader in America, he continues to oversee the controversial MSP 2035 Master Plan.
