SITA will demonstrate ‘SITA Smart Path™’ a fully integrated, multi-airline, biometrically-verified, self-service journey through the airport and across the world’s borders.

SITA Smart Path™ is the culmination of SITA’s lengthy experience working with the world’s airlines, airports and governments, and is designed to provide airlines and airports with a common-use system to give passengers a faster, seamless and smarter journey experience.

Designed to offer secure, speedy self-service, it brings together all the existing elements of a secure fully-automated, or self-service, airport into a multi-airline environment.
Smart Path™ uses biometrics to offer the security needed in such integrated systems. Many airports offer self-service kiosks for check-in and self boarding gates for departures, but to ensure security biometric verification is fast becoming a requirement. SITA believes that, driven by ICAO standards, most likely facial biometrics will be adopted. There have been trials around the world testing various elements of secure self-service, but as yet none have been fully-integrated, by any airport, into every step of the passenger journey. For example, in order for bag-drop to be fully secure it needs to have biometric authentication and, to date, this has not been widely available.

SITA believes that in the past, passenger acceptance of technology might have been a delaying factor. However, with the rising use of mobile technology and the introduction of biometrics and NFC into consumer devices, passengers’ acceptance is no longer a concern. With new technology – whether it is kiosks, automated gates, biometrics, NFC or mobile offerings – the user experience is paramount. Airlines and airports must embrace user centric technology in the new era of the Smart Travel.
