Seattle-Tacoma strives for sustainability at Passenger Terminal CONFERENCE

Elizabeth Leavitt, Director, Aviation Planning & Environmental Services, Seattle-Tacoma Airport, who revealed Seattle-Tacoma’s new international arrivals facility at last year’s conference, is returning to this year’s event to share her vision for greater sustainability through improved masterplanning.

The co-presentation with David Tomber, Aviation Planning Program Manager – Port of Seattle, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, titled ‘Creating a sustainable airport masterplan at Seattle Airport’, will be a key highlight of the Energy, Environmental Issues & Sustainability session planned for Wednesday 16 March.

“Seattle Airport is at a crossroads, facing extraordinary growth and the need to create a development vision based on sustainability principles reflecting its corporate culture,” says Leavitt. “My presentation will focus on an innovative approach to integrating sustainability into an airport masterplanning process – the first of its kind in the United States. The approach to integrating sustainability is divided into three steps: what and where the airport builds on limited land area; how the airport builds a recommended alternative for development; and how the airport operates and manages a sustainability management plan.”

Further highlights from the Energy, Environmental Issues & Sustainability session include presentations from Marion Town, Director of Environment, Vancouver Airport Authority; Marcel van Beek, Manager Sustainability & Innovation, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol; and Kazuyuki Shibuya and Ken Yoshioka, both Assistant Directors at New Kansai International Airport Company Ltd.
