The EF40 series, the latest range of 400Hz Frequency Converters from Power Systems International is designed to replace the traditional, noisy, air polluting diesel engine driven 400Hz GPUs with the latest design in solid state frequency converters. Utilising the latest in power conversion switching technology the new converters provide all types of aircrafts with an extremely flexible and cost effective system for ground power “point of use” installations.
 
The EF40 frequency converters have an inherently high input power factor of 0.99 with low harmonics sine wave input stage. The standard output of the system is via a circuit breaker with an electronic protection for indoor use, or with optional contactors for outdoor use and from 90kVA can be delivered with a dual output and supplied with flexible cables fitted with standard aircraft power connectors.
 
The frequency converters are supplied with 115V single phase output up to 15kVA and from 10kVA to 90kVA with three phase output. The unit is available in vertical or horizontal enclosures, with ingress protection from IP31 – IP54, for a standard vertical fixed installation or for mounting on a mobile trolley, trailer or on floors stands. The EF40 series of frequency converters can be installed at aircraft parking stands: in maintenance hangars; and in avionics workshops, aircraft manufacture and training simulators.  
 
The users of the familiar, traditional diesel engine driven GPUs will recognise the obvious benefits of using an all electrical EF40 GPU: no combustion smells, smoke, fumes, toxic emissions, air pollution, fuel storage / spillage / bills and no engine start battery or engine maintenance costs.
