For many years, an aging but still functional sliding gate was in operation at Singapore Changi Airport, separating the airside and landside areas. Due to its design, the gate had to be operated manually by two employees for every opening and closing cycle — a time consuming process that no longer met the increasing demands for efficiency and modern airport infrastructure.
