NAV Portugal has reaffirmed its position as a leader in air traffic management innovation with the final acceptance of ADB SAFEGATE’s advanced Multi-Sensor Data Fusion System at Lisbon and Porto ATC Towers. This achievement represents a significant milestone in a collaboration with ADB SAFEGATE that dates back to 2007, aimed at enhancing operational safety and efficiency across Portugal’s air navigation services.

As an early adopter of innovative technologies, NAV Portugal first deployed ADB SAFEGATE’s Multi-Sensor Data Fusion System at Lisbon in 2009, followed by its implementation at Porto Airport. In 2017, NAV Portugal further strengthened its modernization efforts by installing ADB SAFEGATE’s Electronic Flight Strip System (EFSS) at Lisbon Tower.

In the latest phase of this strategic partnership, the original Data Fusion System has been replaced with a state-of-the-art, 64-bit Multi-Sensor Data Fusion System that is fully compliant with EUROCAE ED-87E standards. This upgrade, part of ADB SAFEGATE’s OneControl Surveillance Service, integrates ADS-B aircraft feeds and supports Conspicuity Codes in accordance with EU Regulation 1206/2011, providing high-precision tracking and enhanced situational awareness for air traffic controllers.

“The implementation of ADB SAFEGATE’s enhanced Multi-Sensor Data Fusion solution reinforces NAV Portugal’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational performance,” said Pedro Ângelo, CEO NAV Portugal.

“We are proud to support NAV Portugal with our data fusion solutions,” added Gonzalo Moreno-Muñoz, VP Tower at ADB SAFEGATE. “This upgrade reflects our shared commitment to advancing tracking technologies for safer and more efficient air traffic management.”
