Air India has selected RESQTEC’s R2S System to enhance its Disabled Aircraft Recovery Kit. RESQTEC, based in the Netherlands, is renowned for providing state-of-the-art aircraft recovery equipment, training, and services. The newly acquired equipment from RESQTEC is designed for the swift and efficient removal of disabled aircraft, ensuring operational continuity without compromising safety or causing secondary damages. The upgraded kit will be stationed at Air India’s facilities in New Delhi, India.

Air India’s new Disabled Aircraft Recovery Kit was delivered in September 2023. The successful completion of the project was celebrated on 24 May 2024, following the comprehensive training of Air India’s dedicated aircraft recovery team in Mumbai.

During the training, Air India’s team conducted a recovery operation on a simulated incident involving a Boeing 747- 400 with a net recoverable weight of 230 tons. Thanks to the newly acquired knowledge, skills, and cutting-edge aircraft recovery equipment, along with support from RESQTEC experts, Air India’s Disabled Aircraft Recovery Team managed to complete the recovery operation scenario of a collapsed main landing gear within 6.5 hours. They managed to do this with the support of the R2S system, allowing them to lift the aircraft in a single shot without the need for time-consuming cribbing. The training also included optimizing the processes for transporting the equipment by air and road from its base in New Delhi to the simulated incident location in Mumbai.

“The collaboration with RESQTEC will not only help us become more self-reliant in handling disabled aircraft but it also reiterates our commitment to strengthen aircraft recovery capabilities with the latest technology offering effective support to airlines for salvaging aircraft with our trained team and bolstered resources. We are confident that we are now better prepared to handle any aircraft recovery event,” S.K. Dash, Chief Technical Officer, Air India said.

Dennis Beck, Global Sales Director at RESQTEC, added: “Working together with Air India to increase their aircraft recovery preparedness has been a great experience. With the adoption of the latest and most advanced technology, the Rapid Recovery System (R2S), Air India is well-prepared to support the growth of India’s aviation industry in the coming years. They set the standard for safe and quick aircraft recovery operations now and in the future.”
