Garry Jackson and Colin Mooney accept the prestigious RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards

NATS, the UK’s leading provider of air traffic services and solutions, has won a Gold award in the prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2012.

Held at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel, the awards recognise companies that reach a stringent, benchmarked standard of excellence.

Entrants are judged on their accident records and strength of their health and safety management systems, as well as leadership and workforce involvement.

RoSPA Awards Manager David Rawlins said of the NATS entry: “NATS Health, Safety and Fire Team has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement. We are delighted to honour them with this award.”

The NATS team came away with Silver from last year’s awards and were delighted to have now gone one better.

Collecting the award on behalf of the NATS team, Garry Jackson said: “It was good to win Silver last year, but even better to be awarded Gold now as it demonstrates our commitment to keep improving.

“It is a testament to the hard work and professionalism of our Health, Safety and Fire team that our systems and processes have been recognised as being best in class.”

Colin Mooney, Health, Safety and Fire Manager at NATS, added: “Our incident rate is very low, especially when you consider that some of our staff are doing high-risk jobs including working on active airfields or repairing mountain-top radar stations.

“Our aim has always been to keep things as simple as possible while supporting the business, so it’s great to see that work recognised with such a top award.”

NATS handles 2.2 million flights a year in the UK and north eastern Atlantic and operates in 28 countries around the world, with staff based in the USA, Spain, the Middle East, and Hong Kong.
