Dear reader,
NLR is again present at ATC Global 2012 in the RAI, Amsterdam. ATC Global is the largest exhibition and conference for ATM (air traffic management) and ATC (air traffic control). Within the AT-One partnership – that NLR has with the German counterpart DLR – NLR presents everything in the field of simulation solutions for the validation of innovative ATM concepts.

Cruiser Feeder
A consortium led by NLR, recently received a European research commission to study the potential of ‘cruiser-feeder' operations: Large aircraft that fly fixed routes and smaller aircraft that take on passengers and fuel en route. More >>

Mission training
The Defense Helicopter Command (DHC) commissioned NLR to advice in the specification of a training facility for helicopter missions. This helps to train their pilots more effectively. More >>

First regional gliding flight
Recently, Groningen Airport Eelde hosted its first gliding flight, also known as Continuous Descent Approach (CDA). NLR initially studied the benefits of CDAs in terms of noise, fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. More >>

André Kuipers calls NLR from ISS
André Kuipers has called NLR from the International Space Station (ISS), in order to personally congratulate the winner of an internal NLR award. More >>

Prepare for winter weather
Every autumn, a team of some 120 air traffic controllers, ground staff and aircraft handlers practice at NLR in order to prepare for wintry conditions. More >>

New fibre placement processes
By combining two relatively new manufacturing techniques for composite structures, NLR and partners were able to develop new fibre placement processes using dry fibres. More >>

Operator fatigue
Operator fatigue has been a subject of research at NLR for many years. Most of this research was focussed on operators in the aviation domain; fixed wing and helicopter cockpit crew, air traffic controllers and UAS operators. More >>
