At interairport Europe in Munich, the innovative power of Goldhofer + Schopf is presenting the new F 70 and F 396 aircraft tractors.

Schopf F70: Big on power in the compact class

New aircraft tractor in the 8-11 ton category

With its decades of experience, Schopf is the only manufacturer to offer a complete series of aircraft tractors in all weight classes. The latest addition, in the 8-11 ton category, is the brand-new F70.

Tried and tested components

The F70 is a consistent further development of our successful solutions based on decades of experience and our customers’ wishes and requirements. It is a highly compact, modern aircraft tractor built using proven components and finished in the new Schopf look.

For our design engineers, easy maintenance was a high priority. The daily checkup simply involves opening the service flap. Easy access to the various items greatly reduces the time required. This solution has already proved very successful in the F70’s big brother, the F110, and is naturally very popular with airport operators.

New cab

Another attractive feature is the newly designed cab with its focus on comfort and ergonomics. The cab offers ample leg room and a clean layout for all instruments and controls. In combination with the excellent all-round view for the driver, the result is a aircraft tow tractor that is a pleasure to operate.

The new Schopf F70 is designed for low operating and maintenance costs. That makes airport apron services correspondingly profitable. The tractor is in a size category that is ideal for handling aircraft like the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.

F396 – tried, tested, proven and utterly new

The new version of the 70-ton aircraft tractor is the product of forty years of experience.

Forty years and as young as ever: At inter airport, Schopf is presenting the latest version of the F396, which is impressive for its modern technology and again the benchmark in terms of design.

The call for big, heavy tractors arose in the 1970s with the advent of the Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet. The demands placed on aircraft tractors became higher, especially regarding handling, braking and deceleration.

The decision to produce Schopf aircraft tow tractors was taken back in the 1970s, and they have been under constant development ever since. Today Schopf tractors are in use worldwide in every type of climate, from arctic cold to scorching desert heat. We have put our practical experience from airports around the world and input from our customers to good use in the constant development of our tractors. The results are plain to see. For example, the British Ministry of Defence deploys the proven F396 worldwide. Because aircraft tractors must be moved from one location to another, the F396 has been made air transportable by a clever removable ballast system. Today, more than 500 tractors with operating weights ranging from 45 to 70 tons have been delivered around the world.

There is now a new version of the F396 with a comfortable, modern, light and airy cab and new generation Stage IIIb engines that meet the latest emission standards.

Focus on the driver

Special attention has been paid to driver ergonomics. After all, drivers spend all day in the cab maneuvering large aircraft, and that requires high levels of concentration.  Extra thought was also given to ease of maintenance and accessibility to components for routine servicing.

Here too, our talks with customers over the years have led to many improvements in terms of maintenance-friendly solutions. On the basis of our long years of experience with suspension systems, we have introduced hybrid suspension for the front axle to eliminate oscillations and prevent large relative movements of the cab. The result is substantially reduced oscillations, and the new hybrid suspension is now available on request for the F396.

All these technical improvements have been packaged in a completely new F396 design as the benchmark for Schopf tractors and the entire industry. Tried-and-tested Schopf quality is both under the hood and in the finish.
