Colas' airfield maintenance team were called on recently by BA to undertake works to the runway at Glasgow International Airport at very short notice.

First opened in 1966, Glasgow International Airport is the second busiest in Scotland after Edinburgh handling approximately 6.9 million passengers last year.

The emergency work came as a result of foreign object damage to the airport's existing apron causing a risk to aircraft due to the break-up of the surface.

Conscious of the need to deliver a highly flexible repair capable of withstanding heavy loads, Maxicrete  20 was applied to the defective areas. This is a hot applied material previously installed by Colas at Cardiff Airport for BA during various visits over the last three years.

In addition, another section of the apron received a starter course of Addagrip HD mortar followed by the specialist fuel resistant surface dressing, Addagrip 1000,to prolong the life of the pavement.

Derek McBain of Interserve, who manage BA's maintenance at the airport, said: "I am extremely pleased with the professional attitude from the site team, who were very accommodating to our needs at such short notice. I would have no hesitation in passing on Colas' details to my colleagues at our other airports."

In addition to specialist surface treatments, Colas' airfield maintenance division, with our specially trained workforce, perform various maintenance assignments at many UK airports and military installations, including crack and joint repairs, concrete repairs, overbanding and resurfacing.
