Renowned for delivering creative yet practical solutions to complex airport and airfield challenges, atg airports has extended its range of flexible and functional Smart Control software servers to include the new  SmartMini PC. At only a fraction of the size of most conventional ‘tower’ workstations, this latest model has been developed in response to customers’ demands for much-needed space-saving devices.

Measuring only 15.5 x 25.5 x 5.5cm, the SmartMini PC is the smallest and newest model to join atg airports’ range of PC workstations that has been designed to meet the various needs of airport control towers and operators. Unlike standard PC’s that normally require separate tower or racking storage, this new slim-line model can be installed on a desk, under a desk or even in a drawer.

Given its compact size; quiet, fan-less operation, and its ability to be installed practically anywhere, the cabling requirements of the SmartMini PC are truly minimal.  Also, due to its small but powerful design, it is now feasible to install this mini server in the Visual Control Room, even alongside the main control system itself, thereby facilitating enormous improvements in ease of both operational use and regular maintenance upgrades.

Designed to run on a Microsoft Windows operating system, the SmartMini PC boasts a tough, compact case that houses a T2400 core duo processor with built-in sound and graphics support.  An Intel SKT 479 Pentium M CPU and a 2.5” data disk drive with solid state option for high vibration use is also incorporated, and it is this high quality build that guarantees robustness and helps to reduce maintenance cycles.

Commenting on this latest system development, atg airports’ Managing Director Antonio Garrido, said: “Already installed at a number of airports throughout the world, including London Luton, East Midlands, Jersey, and even as far afield as Sydney, the SmartMini PC has been widely acclaimed and is set to be introduced at many more airports in the near future.”

Antonio added: “Together with a variety of other sizes and models in our portfolio including standard ‘towers’ and rack-mounted models, we are now able to provide a wide range of cost-effective platforms for our world-leading software, even for locations where the space in control towers is very limited or where server-rooms are cluttered or overloaded. atg currently has plans to develop an even smaller unit which will set the benchmark for all other competitors.”

atg airports is the market leader in database re-configurable AGL control systems.  In use at many leading airports across the globe, atg’s SmartControl system is designed to cater for all airport requirements and maximises aircraft throughput using existing runways and taxiways by utilising dynamic and preconfigured routing.  As airports grow and develop, so too can the SmartControl system without the need for costly software changes.
