The line-marking and surface coating company recently received accreditation from SAFEcontractor, a programme which recognises very high standards of health and safety practise amongst UK contractors.

This is the sixth year running that the company has been awarded the accreditation.

Employing 45 people, Riggotts is principally involved in the line marking and surface coating industries, providing services from white lining and car park marking to cat’s eyes installation and creative floor graphics.

Clients have included numerous local authorities throughout the UK, as well as major international players including Virgin Media, Ikea and Asda.

The company’s re-application for SAFEcontractor accreditation was driven by the need for a uniform standard across the business and formed part of Riggotts’ recent £60,000 investment into its health, safety, quality and environmental standards.

Nick Riggott, commercial director at Riggotts, said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded SAFEcontractor accreditation again.

“We take health and safety extremely seriously at Riggotts and as such, we have recently invested £60,000 into our health, safety, quality and environmental policies in a bid to become the UK’s safest line marking and surface coating company.

“Riggotts already has a great track record in health and safety, but we want to take it to the next level. A business can never do too much to ensure the health and safety of the workforce, clientele and the general public is taken care of and this SAFEcontractor accreditation is testament to this ethos.”

The company’s latest SAFEcontractor accreditation is expected to enable it to build on its already impressive customer base.

John Kinge, Head of Risk at SAFEcontractor said, “Major organisations can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies.

“More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Riggotts has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example, which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.”

Under the SAFEcontractor system, businesses undergo a vetting process, which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice. Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via a website: www.safecontractor.com

Employer-organisations who sign up to the scheme can access the database, enabling them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. These employers agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those who have received accreditation.

Over one hundred and fifty major nation-wide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.
