„darts“ is component of Airport-CDM at the new airport

Braunschweig, April 2011 – With the opening of the new airport Berlin Brandenburg Interna- tional (BBI) also Airport-CDM will be activated. Today each modern airport is in need of Airport- CDM, therefore it is also an important instrument for BBI to guarantee an optimum control for the airport processes in connection with an Airport Control Center (ACC). The departure se- quence planner will play an essential role within Airport-CDM. It is realised on the basis of the system darts which has been proven in operation for many years.

Based on the departure rates set by the tower controller delair ́s sequence planner calculates target times for each single departure per runway for take-off (TTOT) and start-up (TSAT). A large number of constraints is taken into consideration, especially the TOBT (Target Off-Block Time) which is provided by the airlines. These calculated target times are displayed at working positions in the tower, at airlines and further stakeholders using delair ́s award-winning (iF Award and Red Dot) HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces). The HMIs have been customised according to BBI ́s requirements. Not only can darts be upgraded to a full departure manager (DMAN) but also it can be combined with an arrival manager (AMAN). This has already been tested success- fully in collaboration with the German Air Navigation Service Provider (DFS).

“It was important for us to implement Airport-CDM together with a partner who has experience with sequence planning tools as well as with the development of suitable HMIs”, says Boris Breug, Airport-CDM project manager at BBI. “The solution of delair has convinced both us and the DFS. In all parts of the system we wanted to rely on operationally proven system compo- nents. In addition to the sequence planner this also includes particularly the HMIs and the exten- sive capabilities for evaluation.”
