Airport and Air Traffic Management Systems

A few years ago the resource management system sally which had been used on large airports for more than ten years was renewed from scratch. delair decided then to design a further product suite for regional airports. delair ́s head of marketing and sales, Martin Wiesner, says: “The large commercial airports often have very specific require- ments so that extensive adaptations are necessary for a product like sally. A medium or small airport doesn’t have the possibility to bear these costs. Therefore we decided to offer a system ‘off the shelf’ which is extremely budget-friendly. We have reached this goal with our system sally SE which we could sell to a regional airport already twice in a short period.”

In 2010 the airport Frankfurt-Hahn located in the Hunsruck area has cleared almost 3.5 million passengers and 230,000 tons freight. A particular challenge for the airport is the clearance of pure freight flights and to meet the requirements of a low-cost airline. For this purpose an effi- cient and optimised use of available resources is absolutely essential. delair offers an excellent solution with sally SE. Not only in strategic pre-planning but also in current daily planning sally helps to calculate an optimised result in a few seconds. The extremely powerful algorithm of the expert system takes into consideration all respective constraints.

In the near future Frankfurt-Hahn Airport will plan the allocation of stands and gates using sally SE. The system will enable a fast reaction to flight plan modifications and, consequently, guar- antee to have the staff in the right place at the right time.
