Airport Baggage Handling, Screening, Sorting & Drop Off Systems

Company Alstef Group
Date 23.09.2013

In December 2012, ALSTEF implemented in Hall 2 West at Paris-Orly, a self-service bag drop system equipped with 5 BAGXPress machines. It is the first system of this type in a commercial airport in France, and one of the first across the world.

Hall 2 West at Paris-Orly Airport : a dedicated Hall at the Forefront of Innovation for Air France La Navette

Hall 2 at Paris-Orly is dedicated to Air France La Navette flights towards the 4 major provincial destinations in France : Nice, Toulouse, Marseille and Bordeaux. Flights are scheduled every hour, even every 30 minutes at the busiest times of day.

To make La Navette passenger experience as simple and rapid as possible, Air France and Aéroports de Paris have renovated Hall 2 and have integrated the latest technology to improve passenger flow and save maximum time at check-in.

Unless they have already checked in online, most passengers will use one of the many self-service check-in kiosks at the entry of the Hall. These kiosks integrate a function for printing bag tags. After passengers have put these tags on their bags, they proceed towards the bag drop area that includes 5 BAGXPress machines, plus traditional check-in counters (assisted by an Operator) for non-standard bags, and a payment terminal. At the entry of this area, an Air France Agent reconciles passenger ID cards with boarding passes. Passengers then head toward a BAGXPress machine to deposit their bags by scanning their boarding pass and following the instructions displayed on the screen.

With a bag receipt printed by the machine, passengers finally move towards the security checkpoint (screening of the passenger and his carry-on bag) which they access by scanning their boarding pass at an automatic gate. They arrive directly in the common boarding hall where they can relax and wait for boarding.

Every stage of the passenger’s journey being automated, Air France can optimise passenger processing while alleviating the problem of managing the number of employees required to accommodate peak periods.
