Glidepath, has won a major contract to provide an integrated BHS system to deliver world class screening standards, faster throughput and flexible design to future proof Santiago’s Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport.

“It’s an important win for us in an important and fast growing region,” says Executive Chairman, Sir Kenneth Stevens. “We’ve been established in Chile since 1999. It’s been our Latin American beachhead and we’ve completed 10 airport projects to date up and down the length and breadth of the country. We’ve assembled a highly skilled team in Santiago who speak the language, understand the importance of relationships in Latin America and have the abilities to deliver proven, efficient and innovative technologies and service to our Chilean customers.”

With over 40 projects successfully completed in the Latin American region, Sir Kenneth believes that Glidepath is well positioned to strengthen its Latin America business and is likely to expand its presence with the many exciting opportunities emerging as governments embark on expansion and growth of airport infrastructure investments.

“We want to continue to strengthen Glidepath’s brand and reputation as the number one provider of airport baggage handling systems in Latin America,” he said. “We have a 40-year track record of successful installations in over 67 countries.”

The Santiago Airport contract has three phases and includes the installation of a new 1.6km conveyor system to deliver baggage to four state of the art CT x-ray machines to bring the system up to international screening (TSA) standards, a first for Chile.

The baggage system design, manufacture and installation contract involves the use of GlideSort, GlideView and GlideControl, proprietary technologies unique to Glidepath, to enable checked bags to be routed to any of the eight make-up carousels in the baggage make-up hall and more flexible scheduling. The new system will speed up throughput from 3500 bags per hour to 6000. Concurrent phases throughout the project include design and installation of a VIP check-in system and three new inbound carousels.

A Spanish speaking, multinational project team which includes members from Chile, Peru and New Zealand and is led by Tristan Last, will be on the ground in Santiago throughout the 15 month installation phase.
