BEUMER Group’s Crisplant awarded contract

for the baggage-handling system at Eldorado International Airport, Bogotá, Colombia

Crisplant – part of BEUMER Group and a leading global supplier of automated baggage handling systems – has been awarded a contract to design, manufacture and integrate a new energy-efficient, high-speed automated baggage-handling system at Eldorado International Airport, Bogotá, Colombia.

The modernisation project includes the installation of the industry’s most energy-efficient baggage-handling system, as well as new flight information display systems, passenger processing systems and security processes. The first stage of the two-stage baggage handling project is scheduled to be operational in 2012, with full completion scheduled for 2013.

As Colombia’s main airport, and the third largest airport in Latin America, the expansion and modernisation of Eldorado airport will allow operator, OPAIN, to support passenger growth forecasts, improve operational efficiency and provide an enhanced passenger experience. Providing the airport with the capability to handle more than 20 million passengers annually by 2013, combined with easy expansion for future growth, was an essential factor in Crisplant’s design for the baggage handling system.

The Crisplant system is based on two fully-automatic, high-speed tilt-tray sorters, designed and integrated into the baggage handling system for full redundant operation . The system also integrates 100% Hold Baggage Screening (HBS), as well as 132 check-in stations, conveyors, chutes and carousels.  A fully redundant control system, with the latest high- and low-level controls from Crisplant’s own software suite, will ensure maximum system availability with the flexibility to continually optimise efficiency. After installation, Crisplant will ensure the baggage handling system’s continued high level of performance through a 4-year maintenance contract.
