CSG Case Study 1: BAA

Cova Security Gates Case Study one : BAA London Heathrow Terminal 4 Plaza

Further to the 2007 Glasgow International Airport attack that occurred on Saturday 30 June 2007, at 15:11, when a dark green Jeep Cherokee loaded with propane canisters was driven into the glass doors of the Glasgow International Terminal and set ablaze, BAA were tasked with assessing all vehicle-borne threat throughout their UK airports.

As part of a major refurbishment of London Heathrow’s Terminal 4 Plaza, Cova Security Gates' CSG 10850 Shallow Mount Bollards 7.5 tonne @ 50mph (PAS 68 rated) were specified by the security consultancy team.

The CSG 10850 were the preferred choice due to the minimal foundation availability on the upper vehicle deck, only requiring 215mm of depth, its 50mph crash rating and its complete fulfilment of the aesthetic brief.

In addition to the 100 counter terrorism bollards designed, manufactured and installed by CSG, we also supplied and installed two crash tested shallow mount road blockers to allow authorised vehicular access and egress on and off the ramp.

The two CSG 10506 Road Blockers again only require 215mm of depth, so could easily cope with infrastructural limitations on the vehicle ramp.
