KeTech announces €Multi-Million aviation detection orders helping major European airports to be ready for new EU rules on aviation security that allow air travellers to carry liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) that come into force on 29th April 2011

KeTech, of Nottingham, UK has announced two contracts to supply major European airports with dozens of scanning systems to allow them to comply with new EU aviation security regulations regarding the permitted carrying of certain Liquids, Aerosols and Gels that come into force on 29th April 2011.

The €multi-million contracts will also see KeTech provide comprehensive service packages for the systems.

These new regulations will benefit air travellers by allowing them to carry goods that they may have bought abroad and which previously they would have had to discard when transferring between flights or only temporarily entering an EU country.

Steve Berg, KeTech CEO, said:

"We're delighted to be able to help major EU airports meet their obligations under this new EU law. Although there seems to have been some confusion, the EU law is clear, and has been re-iterated by the Commission at recent meetings KeTech attended.

The NUCTECH LS1516BA system that KeTech is exclusively providing has been thoroughly tested by the appointed testing bodies and is fully endorsed by the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) as a Type B, Standard 2 system, the highest Type B approval available. It has also been thoroughly tested and trialled at airports in the EU before these orders were placed.

We are confident that the system provided by KeTech offers operators the very best
solution available, including a leading low False Alarm Rate that we understand to be
significantly better than alternative systems. This low False Alarm Rate will allow our airport customers to meet their security obligations in the most efficient and effective manner possible.

We hope that the placing of these important orders, including from one of the largest EU countries, will help clarify for other airports across the EU that the situation on this new regulation is clear. There may of course be very significant penalties for airport operators who fail to meet the new regulations, and we are ready to work with those operators to help them plan to avoid this situation. However, time is short before the regulations come into force, so operators do need to act very quickly."
