Heathrow Terminal 2 – Firstco's System Consultancy and Project Management bring Airport Infrastructure to Life
The Heathrow Terminal 2 project is a £2.5billion 400,000m² passenger terminal facility that includes a main terminal building, a satellite terminal building, multi-storey car park and cooling station.
Firstco provided Information & Communication Technology (ICT) engineering resources to a Design, Manage & Integrate (DMI) Framework led by Mott Macdonald and appointed by Heathrow Airport Ltd (HAL). Firstco were engaged to develop Client requirements for over 70 systems into a full Scheme Design for delivery by specialist systems providers and complex building integrators. During the delivery stage of the project Firstco were retained to provide a Technical Assurance function by retaining Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) to maintain design continuity and quality through technical responses and design reviews.
Terminal 2 ICT system scope included:
- Communication Infrastructure
- Building Controls & Monitoring
- Security Systems
- Life Safety Systems
- Airport Operational Systems
To ensure a successful delivery of the ICT systems Firstco worked within a strict requirements capture process from which they developed comprehensive system performance specifications underpinned by a proactive interface management ethos.
Firstco’s ability to understand and interpret the language of architects, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, communication and control engineers into a common language understood by all parties was key to the successful determination of the design and its interface requirements.
