MEA®DRAIN: Leading channels for airports world-wide
1 year, 4 airports, 12.512 meters of drainage systems, and a brand that embodies it all: MEA®DRAIN drainage systems.

MEA once again supplied a number of large-scale projects world-wide with its drainage systems. Among these were Ämari Airbase (Estonia), Sakhir Airbase (Bahrain), Port Blair (India), and Lampedusa Airport (Italy).

Sakhir Airbase represented a special challenge. The drainage concept for apron and taxiways was developed by one of our specialists for international application technology in close cooperation with the responsible planning agency and local partner. The executing building contractors were trained locally for the installation of the channels, as well as for the planning and the hydraulic design.

MEA colleagues supervised the onsite installation. The Estonian NATO Military Airport Ämari is only one example of the success, which is characterized by high quality and excellent support. Three kilometres of MEADRAIN channels were installed in this country for the construction of the Tallinn International Airport in 2007 with the help of the same local partner.

The fact that MEA received a follow-up order in 2009 for over 6500 meters shows the satisfaction of the construction company as well as the customer, the airport operator. One of the most exotic examples of MEA drainage systems regarding airport expertise is the Vir Savarkar Aiport, named after an Indian politician, which lies in the Bay of Bengal, on the island of Port Blair.

On this remote island, modern tourism and the traditional way of life of the inhabitants clash. Despite the fact that Ptolemy called this island “the cannibal island”, the beaches are obviously not deserted because the inhabitants of the solitary island gladly eat its visitors! As the supplier of our flagship EN 3070, MEA now also introduces itself in the Indian subcontinent as an innovative and reliable partner. Back in Europe this is only half of the truth, because although Lampedusa belongs to Italy, it is geographically a part of Africa.

Our partner Green Pipe succeeded in winning the “Lampedusa Airport Italy” project on the border of these two continents. The exclusive high performance EN 3070 gutter is also installed here as was in the Indian airport of Port Blair. Inconspicuously, but indispensably, MEA thereby makes an important contribution to the security of air traffic surfaces world-wide.
