Complying with strict safety standards in Germany (DIN 18650), Boon Edam has installed its first unique Twintour high capacity revolving door on the main entrance of Düsseldorf International Airport.

With thousands of travellers passing through the entrance of Düsseldorf International Airport day in, day out, it is essential for the entrance to cope with the high passenger numbers, as well as keeping a balanced environment within the terminal building.

Having experienced the ‘always open, always closed’ advantages of a revolving door first hand at one of the side entrances, Düsseldorf International Airport consulted Boon Edam when evaluating their main entrances. Using Boon Edam’s advanced Energy Savings Calculation Software to make a thorough analysis of the airport’s specific situation, the results were clear; installing revolving doors at all terminal entrances would expect to save 2.1 million Kw/H and up to 2400 tons CO2 per year, therefore saving substantial energy bill and maintenance costs.

The first Twintour revolving door was installed in February 2011. Later in 2011 two more Twintour High Capacity Revolving Doors will be installed at other terminal entrances, ensuring passengers can enter and exit Düsseldorf International Airport comfortably and safely.

The Twintour revolving door has the highest possible capacity for pedestrian traffic. It consists of two or more 2-wing revolving doors. The door sets are synchronised, rotating at right angles to one another to ensure a permanent barrier between the inside and outside climates.
