Although its design is over 100 years old, the ‘always open, always closed’ principle still ensures that the revolving door is the most energy efficient entrance solution available. Royal Boon Edam has now found innovative new possibilities to improve the energy saving capabilities of the revolving door even further.

The Green Retrofit Package consists of a number of measures that can be installed on both new and existing revolving doors. One of these measures is improved weather strips consisting of a combination of horse hair and a Neoprene interlayer that reduces the air leakage with at least 30%, saving hundreds of Euros worth of energy. The second improvement is an innovative motion detector for automated revolving doors. It detects the walking direction of people in the vicinity of the door thus ensuring the door will only turn when someone wants to enter it. This reduces both the power consumption of the door and the dynamical energy losses, saving energy for heating or cooling a building.

The package also includes a new lighting system with LED lights which have a longer lifespan and 60% lower energy consumption than the halogen lights that are currently used in most revolving doors. The smart lighting control allows the ceiling lighting to be turned off when the door is not in use.
