Kee Safety has developed its BoxBolt® range of blind steelwork fixings to provide specifiers, structural engineers and contractors with an approved and tested method for securing curtain walling and bolted glass facades safely to buildings.
 
Providing a guaranteed safe working load, Kee Safety’s BoxBolt® series are ideal for fixing the angle brackets and spiders typically used in curtain walling projects directly onto steel structures. They thus provide an effective solution for installations, from small low rise buildings up to mega structures, where the individual weight of the curtain walling together with the design wind load will create a wide variance in the required loadings. Constructed from three separate parts, a body, a Grade 8.8 bolt and a cone, BoxBolt® fixings have been extensively tested, and are certified by Lloyds Type Register and the Deutches Institut fur Bautetehnik (DIBT approved) for use within Safe Working Loads for tensile and shear.
 
BoxBolt® fixings are also easy to use. The complete fixing is simply inserted into a preformed hole in the bracket or spider, and then into the main steel structure. The Grade 8.8 bolt is tightened to the recommended torque which expands the fins of the main body to complete the connection. Manufactured in six different bolt diameters and three different lengths, BoxBolt® fixings contain an overlap feature, allowing them to handle unforeseen variations in steel thicknesses, up to a maximum thickness of 102mm. No special tools are required for fixing.
 
Part of the company’s successful Safe Fixings range, BoxBolt® fixings also bring long-lasting reliability and corrosion resistant performance to every application. They are supplied zinc plated, hot dip spun galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 and are manufactured in stainless steel to BS EN 10088 grade 1.4401 in line with Steel Construction Institute (SCI) 101 guidance, Curtain Wall Connections to Steel Frames, which recommends corrosion-resistant fixings.
