Airport Integration of Operational Systems, Passenger Processing & Baggage Systems

Company Airport Systems – ADB Safegate
Date 04.04.2012

On 4 April, Ultra Electronics and the Omani Ministry of Transport and Communication signed a contract for a major airport systems integration project in Oman. The signing ceremony, held in Muscat, was attended by HE Dr Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Futaisi, Transport and Communications Minister; George Osborne, the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer and senior representatives from Ultra.

Ultra is to design and build all of the electronic infrastructure, airport systems, IT, communication and security systems in the new terminals at Muscat and Salalah airports. The value of the award is 127.5m Omani Rials; around £207m at current exchange rates.

Since receiving the letter of award in July 2011, Ultra, alongside its in-country partner, Oman Investment Corporation, has established a joint venture business, Ultra Electronics, Ithra, to execute the project. Ithra currently has 120 employees in Oman and is still recruiting. Ithra is well advanced in the design phase of the project, encompassing the networks and telecommunications systems, security and airport operational software systems. Work will shortly start on site.

Rakesh Sharma, Chief Executive of Ultra, commented:
“I am extremely pleased that Ultra has received the contract for this prestigious airport systems project in Oman. We have assembled a world-class team of companies that complement the IT systems and software capability that Ultra has developed over recent years. The project has made a great start and we are looking forward to working with the Ministry of Transport and Communication and our teaming partners to ensure that this early success continues until completion.”
