Nowadays, everyday work on the airport apron can hardly be imagined without mobile computers. Nevertheless, there are areas in which special requirements in regard to usability an performance had made the use of these devices impossible or uneconomical until recently. This has now changed with the technical maturation and affordability of the last generation of mobile computing devices. In this respect, modern tablet computers have become an exceedingly practical platform: usability, mobility and performance power are ideally combined in these handy devices. Special strengths are the large screen for the clearly-arranged display of comprehensive sets of information as well as the ergonomic options for entering data. This allows managing even complex tasks with mobile software applications.

New mobile application for de-icing

topsystem constantly expands the portfolio of mobile applications optimized for tablets. The latest addition to the software family is a comprehensive app for managing and recording de-icing operations. An online connection to the stationary central server for flight scheduling and operations is used to make aircraft de-icing tasks available on mobile computers mounted on de-icing vehicles. Whenever a de-icing operation is accepted, contractually agreed service details – e.g. which aircraft parts are to be treated or which mixture is to be used – can be imported automatically. The recorded operational data are then returned to the central IT system where it is immediately available for invoicing. Naturally, individually agreed price modifications or other contractual peculiarities can be automatically taken into account here.

Thus, the new module offers a paperless and electronically integrated solution maximizing operational control and making the immediate invoicing of de-icing services possible at the same time.

Mobile service recording and quality management

The mobile service recording software for ground handlers about which we reported in detail in the last issue has now also experienced a major expansion: a new module allows now to directly record specific values characteristics about the service quality. This includes, for example, time stamps, the recording of irregularities or the analysis of responsibilities for occurring delays. In combination with the mobile service recording now all data relevant for ground handling operations can be recorded with an integrated solution.
