Airline to now serve South Africa with seven daily flights, bringing the total amount of flights per week to 49

Emirates, a global connector of people and places today announced that it will introduce a fourth daily flight between Dubai and Johannesburg effective 26th October 2014, lifting to seven the number of daily flights to South Africa.

The addition boosts Emirates’ total number of scheduled flights between the two countries to 49 a week, re-affirming its position as one of the largest flight operators into South Africa. In addition to Johannesburg, Emirates also services the popular cities of Cape Town and Durban. Linking South Africa with Emirates’ global network, the seven daily flights demonstrate the importance of the South African market for Emirates.

“We are introducing our fourth daily service between Dubai and Johannesburg to meet the growing passenger demand for flights between these two important business and tourism hubs. The increased frequency gives our customers greater flexibility in their travel plans and enhances connectivity to other flights on the Emirates network through our Dubai hub," said Orhan Abbas, Emirates Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Latin America, Central and Southern Africa.

He added: “We have seen a healthy year-on-year increase in passenger numbers on the route, reflecting the steady economic and tourism growth of both cities and this investment demonstrates our confidence in the strength of the market. Johannesburg remains an important gateway for inbound traffic and we are pleased to provide more connectivity options to our customers, especially those from the GCC, Middle East, the UK, USA, Germany and France. The fourth daily flight will also enhance connection convenience for outbound passengers going to India, Pakistan, Singapore, Malaysia, Bangkok and Jordan, Qatar and Iran.”

Expands code-share partnership with South African Airways

Emirates and South African Airways will extend its code-share partnership to include the brand new service between Dubai and Johannesburg – currently South African Airways code-shares on all Emirates flights to and from South Africa. The expansion of the code-share agreement reflects the successful and long-standing partnership between the two carriers.

Operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, EK767 will depart Dubai at 2320hrs and arrive at Johannesburg at 0535hrs the following day. The return flight, EK768 departs Johannesburg at 0930hrs and arrives in Dubai at 1940hrs. The B777-300ER features 354 seats in a three-class configuration – eight seats in First Class, 42 in Business Class and 304 in Economy Class.

The Emirates experience across all cabins includes meals prepared by gourmet chefs, award-winning service from the airline’s multi-national cabin crew recruited from over 120 countries, as well as ice, the airline’s inflight entertainment system with almost 1,800 channels including movies, television programmes, games, audio books and music.

Emirates’ footprint in 2014 will grow and include launches into Chicago, (5th August), Oslo (2nd September), Brussels (5th September) and Budapest (27th October) after Taipei and Boston were launched earlier in the year.

Emirates serves 143 destinations around the globe with a young, technologically-advanced fleet of over 220 wide-bodied aircraft that are equipped with industry-leading features. Additionally, Emirates has the largest fleet of Airbus A380s with the 50th A380 added to the fleet this month.
