Functional design for new satellite building facility

Twenty years after completing the master plan for Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok, Thailand, NACO is once again involved in the extension of this global hub. The Airports Authority of Thailand awarded the design of a 215,000 square meter satellite building to an international consortium led by the Thai firms MAA Consultants Co. and Design 103 International. Since the current airport facilities are already handling more passengers than what they are designed for, this extension will help sustain the rapid growth of tourism, one of the main pillars of Thailand’s economy. The new satellite building will accommodate international passengers and will be equipped with a people mover and station.

As part of the consortium, NACO will deliver the functional design of the satellite building facility, while Design 103 and the global architectural firm HOK will cooperate on the architectural design. Design 103 International, a Thai firm in which NACO’s parent company Royal HaskoningDHV is a major shareholder, has also been involved over the years in the development of the airport.

Other members of the consortium include baggage handling experts BNP of the U.S. and Wise Project Consulting Co, Ltd. of Bangkok.
