NACO Netherlands Airport Consultants, a member of the DHV Group, has successfully collaborated with a strong local and international team for the concession bid of Viracopos International Airport. Lead by Triunfo Participações e Investimentos and UTC Participações, the consortium will be responsible for the management and development of the airport for the next 30 years.

The consortium, Consórcio Aeroportos Brasil, which includes Triunfo Participações e Investimentos, UTC Par and France's Egis Avia won the concession with a bid of $2.2 billion.

Viracopos Airport processed 7,542,239 million passengers in 2011 and its traffic is expected to grow to 15 million passengers annually within the next 10 years. The current infrastructure and more specifically the terminal building will need to be modernized and expanded.

Since our consortium has produced the winning bid, NACO will be associated for the coming years with airport planning at Viracopos Airport. We will be especially busy at the airport over the next five years. NACO worked very constructively with Consórcio Aeroportos Brasil and our Brazilian partner Aeroservice and we look forward to future cooperation”.    

Increasing capacity and modernization
At the beginning of the year, a public call for tenders was circulated to private consortiums by the Brazilian government for three of its airports. These measurements were taken in order to realize projects that will increase passenger handling capacity and modernize the airports. Also up for concession were São Paulo–Guarulhos and Brasilia airports. The bids for all three airports totaled $14.2 billion.

Infraero, the state-owned firm that currently operates most airports in Brazil, will maintain a 49% stake in the airports and will hold the veto right on strategic decisions in the joint-ventures with the new private companies.
