Airport Material Handling and Storage Systems' Automation

On 16th of March SCLG in cooperation with Dubai Duty Free hosted The Official Site Visit in Dubai Duty Free Warehouse.

A tour of automated Distribution Center in Umm Ramoul was organized by Supply Chain and Logistic Group in cooperation with Dubai Duty Free IT&Logistic Department.

Mr. Ramesh Cidambi, Senior Vice President – I.T. and Logistics, of Dubai Duty Free made a presentation on DDF's retail business at the airport and the automation in the DC which supports the business, and then conduct a tour of the facility.

In 2005, from several warehouses across Dubai, DDF decided to consolidate into one automated warehouse closer to the airport.

ALS was awarded the contract to design and build a state-of-the-art fully Automated High-Bay Warehouse and Special Storage terminal.

This main CDC (Central Distribution Centre) for the Dubai Duty was handed over in 2008.

The scope of the newly-designed warehousing facility consisted of; Automated Storage and Retrieval System, Tote Handling System, Truck Docks, Input & Output Work Stations, Complete IT Solutions with existing Oracle database and of course, after sales support and maintenance services.

Once handed over, the goal to cover all operations for on-time delivery of orders to meet with the requirements and projected growth of Dubai Duty Free was achieved.

In October 2008, Dubai Duty Free inaugurated the new Emirates Terminal 3, doubling its retail space from 7,000 square meters to 15,000 square meters.

After successfully completing the Fully Automated High-Bay Warehousing and Special Storage Terminal for Dubai Duty Free, in 2008, ALS was given the opportunity to upgrade and increase to more than double the storage capacity of the same warehouse in 2011.

The Fully Automated High-Bay Storage and Retrieval Warehouse, with its enhanced storage capacities and operational efficiencies aims to increase the annual cargo throughput to and from the existing and near to be finished passenger terminals in Dubai International Airport.

Using the latest technology of cutting-edge Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems such as: Shuttle System, Advanced High-tech Stacker Cranes, modernized conveyor systems and reduced energy consumption, ALS was able to hand over the second phase to Dubai Duty free, ahead of the proposed completion date, earlier last year in August 2012.
