Heathrow Terminal 2 officially opened its doors to passengers on June 4th 2014. The “Queen’s Terminal”  arises from the site of the original Terminal 2 and the new building will be the home for all of the Star Alliance carriers operating from LHR. The £2.5bn (US$4.1bn) terminal is the latest phase of a £11bn (US$18.4bn) investment programme at Heathrow Airport and delivers a spacious, cutting edge facility that is truly passenger focused.

Check-in and Bag Drop

Passenger convenience and self-service is the central focus at Terminal 2 and Damarel’s Babel CLF ensures Air China and All Nippon Airways exceed expectations. Babel’s advanced airline GUI has been tailored to simplify and streamline the operation of the Common Bag Drop, with passengers and bags processed in seconds. Self-service check-in is now at record levels and a quick, convenient bag drop is essential to ensure passengers enjoy the best possible airport experience.

Self Boarding Gates

At the gate, passengers can also take advantage of the latest Self Boarding Gates powered by Damarel’s Embark automated boarding application. Embark drives the SBGs in the most advanced ‘unattended’ mode and passengers “self-scan” themselves securely through to the aircraft. Automated boarding dramatically cuts down the time taken to load aircraft, reduces gate congestion and decreases staff overhead.

Babel and Embark are a fully integrated solution to simplify, improve and speed-up passenger processing – at reduced cost.

All these factors were major considerations for their use in the state-of-the-art T2, which hopes to become rated as one of the world’s best airport terminals for years to come.
