Airport Pedestrian and Vehicle Safety Barriers

Company A-Safe (UK) Ltd
Date 23.08.2011

YSS ENGINEERED SOLUTIONS design, manufacture and install structures and assemblies in stainless steel, mild steel and aluminium for a wide variety of clients including the oil, gas, pharmaceutical and food industries, as well as working with individual homeowners to developers, architects and designers. Everyone at YSS, from the front office to production believe in their ability to deliver to their clients the very best service and commitment to quality manufacturing  to ensure their projects meet deadlines and budgets

A-Safe is proud to have close working relations with another Yorkshire manufacturing company in YSS, both in philosophy and proximity.  Both companies are fiercely proud to be a part of ‘Made in Britain’.  Although YSS is a fabricator of repute and could manufacture steel safety barriers of a sort, they have chosen A-Safe barriers to be the barrier of choice in segregating and protecting valued staff and assets within their own stainless steel manufacturing outlet adjacent to the A-Safe factory in Halifax.

Darren Brown, Managing Director of YSS, explains:

“I have known the Smith family, who own and run the A-Safe company, for quite a while (we actually manufacture the steel fabricated components and accessories for their safety barrier systems).   We could fabricate steel barriers ourselves, much like thousands of other fabricators, but when it came to the ultimate safety of my staff, then A-Safe barriers were the only choice.  They buckle on impact and return to shape, protecting staff and not destroying the floor through the base plate bolts.  I am aware that if FLTs are flying about and clouting steel barriers, it is costly to maintain in replacing damaged parts and repairing the floor, which takes time as well as expense.  We used Pedestrian barrier to safeguard the mezzanine floor from personnel falling from height.  It is very strong and durable, we tend to lean heavy stuff against it, but there is no movement and our factory lads feel safe.”

YSS can offer our clients a complete package from design concept to end manufacturing utilising the latest cad/cam software packages.  In house laser cutting facilities allow them to produce components, parts and panelling within a rapid turn round period.  They believe in developing a close working relationship with their clients, much in the same way that A-Safe does, to ensure they receive the benefit from their own skilled workforce's knowledge and experience whether it's in the production of a small component to a large installation or prototype to large batch production runs.

It is this technology that A-Safe has tapped into in turn with YSS who have dedicated programmes to laser cut all types of metal and acrylic fabrication components for their customers, including A-Safe.  Darren went on to comment:

“A laser column used in conjunction with cutting tables is ably protected from our FLTs by the use of two A-Safe Bollards, flanking the unit, giving proper protection to a highly valuable piece of engineering kit, I’m very pleased with the safety aspects.”

Darren, like James and Luke Smith, Directors running A-Safe, is passionate about British manufacturing and happy for YSS to be closely associated with A-Safe.  Darren’s final comment was: “A-Safe is a very good product and I can appreciate its value and in the way it is manufactured, it is better than steel for safety barriers.  Like A-Safe, we also have plans for expansion and are proud to be part of a strong tradition in British manufacturing”
