At Netwatch, our mission is “to create a fearless environment for our clients” – one in which they feel safe and secure, be it in their business or at home. This was borne out of an incident that occurred over 10 years ago, which led to the establishment of Netwatch. In 2002, a mutual friend of founders David Walsh and Niall Kelly responded to a standard alarm at his business. What he didn’t know was that this wasn’t the standard false alarm to which he had become accustomed – it was an actual incident and the intruders were still on the site when he arrived. He was viciously attacked and ended up hospitalised – lucky to escape with his life.

David and Niall were shocked by this tragedy, and both recognised that there was a real need for a security system that ensures the safety of the first responder while also protecting the premises. Acknowledging the inadequacies of traditional security systems, they sought to make certain that an individual would never again have to walk blindly into a real-life crime scenario.

This led to David and Niall researching the feasibility of a pro-active alarm monitoring system, using the most advanced video transmission technology. Their search was a global one, recognising that the most advanced technologies at the time were to be found abroad. Their search led them to Australia, where they found a company who specialised in the area of video transmission technology, but for military use and application. However, the enthusiasm and tenacity of David and Niall impressed the Australian company greatly, and they agreed to a pilot scheme whereby they would modify the technology to incorporate the features which were earmarked as being of critical importance to commercial application.

The end result of this was a system that was a massive step forward in the security industry and in the protection of first responders and key-holders. Netwatch now had the capability to visually confirm the presence of an intruder on-site via CCTV camera systems and crucially, to detect him before he reached his intended target. At this point, Netwatch intervene by issuing a live personalised audio warning advising the intruder to leave the area. This early intervention has proved to be extremely effective in preventing criminal activity and its costly results.

Because Netwatch uses visual recognition to differentiate a real crime from a false alarm, while ensuring the safety of the first responder, it makes it more effective than the combination of an alarm, passive CCTV and a security guard. The first responder safety is ensured by Netwatch remotely alerting the authorities to any unauthorised activity at a client’s premises, and continuously monitoring the movement and actions of the intruder while waiting for the authorities to arrive.
