For years the only choice for Stripe Hog chassis had been the cab over chassis design. While these compact chassis worked well they did have some limitations. Now for the first time ever, all Stripe Hog models are available with conventional chassis. This means that all Stripe Hogs are now more powerful, more comfortable and have more available options then ever before.

Here’ s what Christopher Warren, Vice President of Operations for Griffin Pavement Striping, Inc. has to say about the new conventional cab Stripe Hog SH8000:

“The market for class 8 cab over chassis’ is fairly limited. Packaging constraints, lack of options and limited driver/operator comfort levels forced us to start looking at the conventional cab market and we were pleasantly surprised by what we found. When we originally approached Waterblasting Technologies with the suggestion of building an SH8000 on a conventional cab/chassis, they were immediately open to the idea.  It was not much of a stretch for them as they already had several smaller models that were based on conventional cabs.

There are a myriad of benefits to utilizing a conventional cab. Larger dealer networks, more engine choices, decreased chassis cost and increased driver/operator comfort levels are just a few of the advantages. Our biggest concerns were visibility for the operator and vehicle maneuverability. Waterblasting Technologies worked with us to address both of these issues. They adapted our sliding bumper design to work in conjunction with factory installed dual steering controls allowing the 5-axis Hog Arm and Hog Head to be easily moved from one side of the vehicle to the other. This gives the operator a direct view of the blasting heads to remove markings from either side of the cab. For even greater flexibility, a high definition video system was installed to give the operator the ability to blast from any point in front of the truck. The availability of a 22,000# capacity front axle utilizing a 45° wheel cut works in conjunction with a wheelbase that is actually shorter than the standard SH8000. Maneuverability is actually comparable, if not better than, other Stripe Hog models.Christopher Warren of Griffin Pavement Striping, Inc.

The conventional cab option allowed us to have more power (470hp from the Detroit DD13) with increased cooling capacity for stationary operations. We have greater range as there is more room under the deck to allow for larger fuel tanks and a larger DEF tank. Increased driver comfort and interior room is achieved by the use of an air ride cab and air ride captain’s chairs while doing away with the center engine hump.

We are very pleased with what Waterblasting Technologies has been able to do with the latest Stripe Hog SH8000. Our operators have quickly adapted to the conventional cab operation and have praised its benefits. We look forward to using this truck for many years.”
