Major refurbishment of car parks at the Heathrow Airport complex involved nearly two kilometres of Berry Systems barriers

Date 17.10.2011

A major refurbishment of car parks at the Heathrow Airport complex involved nearly two kilometres of Berry Systems barriers. The in-house design team at the British Airports Authority specified the unique Flexi-Post mounting system with handrail extensions and anti-climb mesh. These flexible floor mounted posts can be used to absorb impacts of up to 10 tonnes.

Special adaptations were included to customize the system to fit the individual requirements of the short stay car park facility for Terminals 1 and 2.

This involved the design of special handrail units to fit around the lighting columns.
Following the success of this project, refurbishment at other Heathrow car parks is progressing.
