Toulouse-Blagnac Airport

The waiting area system, Airline, developed by Vitra with the architect and designer, Lord Norman Foster, has been installed at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport. Not only does Airline’s superbly conceived structure provide comfort but it’s also easy to maintain. And because its restrained and elegant appeal was a perfect fit for the architectural concept for Toulouse-Blagnac Airport, 628 seating units have been installed mounted on cross beams. A number of .04 stretcher units by Maarten Van Severen were also installed on cross beams, with Van Severen’s reduced design of necessity reflecting the architecture of the airport building even more emphatically than Airline.

Toulouse-Blagnac is France’s fourth biggest airport with 6 million passengers per year and anticipates a passenger volume of 8.5 million by 2015. With this in mind, a range of extensions, such as the new Hall D now superbly suffused with light, and other improvements have been undertaken.

One of the features of public waiting areas such as these is the greater than average and unthinking demands made on space and material. That’s why the products Vitra develops solely for these types of spaces are extremely sturdy – without compromising on their design.
