On May 21st 1927, the aviation pioneer Charles A. Lindbergh flew into the history books by completing the first ever non-stop transatlantic flight from New York to Paris after specially commissioning an aircraft in San Diego. The following year, a bond issue was passed for the construction of a municipal airport in Lindbergh’s name – and San Diego International Airport was born.

Since then, the airport affectionately known as ‘Lindbergh Field’ has continued to grow. 2013 will see Terminal 2 double in size following a US $1 billion Green Build expansion project, which will include ten new gates, expanded waiting areas, enhanced security areas, and more shopping and dining options.

Zoeftig has just despatched a 1600-place order of beam seating for the new expansion, ready for installation in the New Year. An assortment of units from the versatile Zenky range, as well as bespoke add-ons specially commissioned for the project, has been supplied. New and existing areas of the terminal will be suitably complemented with ‘Solo’ (pictured), Standard, and PRM derivatives of our resilient Zenky, complete with bespoke padded armrests, quartz tables, stainless steel Cup Holders, and integrated PowerArms in a unique colour to match the design scheme.

If you are travelling through San Diego International Airport anytime soon then check out the Green Build Discovery Centre in the pre-security area in Terminal 2, which enables visitors to view all of the forthcoming improvements to the airport, through infographics, renderings and video.
