Jungheinrich builds up its engagement in Asia. Jungheinrich further increases its activities in China and in all of South East Asia during the coming years. Apart from expanding the direct sales activities in China, developing a dealer network in certain regions is also part of the planned measures. “We see great growth potential in the Asian market” says Dr. Helmut Limberg, Executive Board member for Sales within Jungheinrich AG. ”This is why we force ahead with our Sales activities in China and the whole South East Asia region.”

China is the main growth driver for the entire region

The Chinese market, where Jungheinrich is operating with its own Sales Company since 2004, has grown continuously during the past few years. The year 2010 recorded growth from just less than 120.000 fork lift trucks (2009) to approx. 200.000 units. Growth in China is also having a positive effect on the development of markets in the entire region. The region recorded just fewer than 300.000 sold fork lift trucks in 2010. Approximately 180.000 units were sold in 2005. Helmut Limberg: “Driven by the growth of China, Asia exceeded the market volume of Europe for the first time in 2010. This shows how important this market is for us.”

Apart from its presence in China, Jungheinrich is also represented in other Asian states with own Sales companies, such as in Singapore (since 2000), Thailand (since 2006) and Malaysia (since 2009). In countries such as India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Korea or the Philippines, Jungheinrich products are sold through an exclusive dealer network. Jungheinrich is also expanding its sales activities in these regions.

Jungheinrich has strengthened its Executive Management in Asia for this reason. Alexander Özbahadir holds the position of Managing Director of Jungheinrich Lift Truck (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in China since the beginning of the year. The previous Managing Director, Jan Willem Jongert, who was also Jungheinrich’s Vice President Asia Pacific, will now in this function be concentrating exclusively on the expansion of all Sales activities in Asia from the Shanghai base.

Trucks according to Asian market requirements

Jungheinrich has had its own production factory in Qingpu (district Shanghai) since 2006. The production site which was initially an assembly factory for pedestrian fork lift trucks now also produces electric counterbalance trucks. “Trucks are produced here for the whole region to the specific requirements of the Asian market”, says Reinhild Kühne, Head of Jungheinrich factory in Qingpu.

The production of reach trucks for the Asian market will also start here at the end of 2011. A project for the introduction of the reach truck range ETVn 114/116 was started in mid-2010. This is a compact reach truck with capacities to 1600 kg and different lift heights to over nine metres. The production of these trucks is based on well tried and tested Jungheinrich products from the Norderstedt factory.

In order to satisfy the increasing demand for fork lift trucks in Asia, Jungheinrich is planning to expand its production capacities considerably. A new factory will be built on a site to be purchased with a total area of more than 60.000 square metres. Apart from optimising logistics, the new factory will also make the production of other truck ranges possible.

Jungheinrich ranks among the world’s leading companies in the material handling equipment, warehousing and material flow engineering sectors. The company is a service provider with manufacturing operations as well as an intralogistics solution provider, which offers its customers a comprehensive range of forklift trucks, shelving systems, services and consulting. Jungheinrich shares are traded on all German stock exchanges.
