"Blue Eye Video provides our customers with the ability to make informed choices," Chris Browne, airport manager at Washington Dulles, told IHS Jane's . "Dulles passengers can use this new service to eliminate the guess-work from selecting which checkpoint to use.

"In addition to providing passengers with the information they need to self-select to the shortest queue, Blue Eye Video also provides TSA managers with the information they need to make timely staffing decisions."

The system uses overhead cameras to measure constantly the number of people in line and the number exiting the security checkpoint. From this data and company-developed image processing algorithms, wait times at the mezzanine checkpoints are calculated in real time.

The system took advantage of security cameras already in place with the airport installing a few more, said Browne, who added that the system had been working reliably.
