ASFT and Saab Security launches a partnership where ASFT and Saab Security cooperate in developing and marketing IT-systems and products for weather monitoring at airports.

Weather can have a major effect on the efficient running of Airports. In some circumstances bad weather can close down an airport for extended periods of time, losing airlines money and disrupting travel plans for thousands of passengers. In extreme cases the weather can pose a serious threat to the lives of passengers and aircrews.

The powerful effect of the weather was highlighted during winter 2010 when ice and snow caused prolonged disruption to services at Heathrow airport in the UK causing millions of pounds in losses for airlines and the airport operator not to mention damage to the airport's reputation.

ASFT now offer computerised technology: for the detection of the freezing point, precipitation monitoring, ground frost measuring, ice warnings, systems for monitoring ice deposit growth as well as colour/IR camera systems. The camera uses infrared technology to ensure the user is able to monitor conditions even in low light levels during winter. The technology is purpose built for stationary or mobile use. To provide more efficient and accurate collection of airport weather data ASFT have teamed up with Saab Security to produce a range of highly advanced weather data collection devices.

A key element of keeping airport efficiency high is preparing for forthcoming weather conditions and reacting quickly to whatever conditions prevail. The more weather data an airport can gather can help to increase the time they have to prepare either by treating aircraft and runway surfaces or making alternative arrangements for passengers.

With these systems, ASFT offer airports in frosty regions and authorities the technology to help save lives and cut costs.
