Airport X-Ray Security Screening Systems

L-3 Security and Detection Systems has been awarded and a five-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (ID/IQ) contract by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to supply medium-speed explosives detection systems.

Under the US$549.6 million (£339.2 million) contract, L-3 will supply TSA with eXaminer 3DX and eXaminer 3DX-ES systems for use in checked bag screening at airports across the USA. More than 640 of these systems are currently in use by TSA.

Both systems are TSA-certified and EU CEP approved and use multi-slice CT imaging technology to generate full 3D imaging for accurate detection of banned substances. The eXaminer 3DX-ES unit can scan more than 750 bags per hour and is one of the fastest systems in the medium speed class.
